Coupling

John Crane’s Metastream® M Series couplings are designed with features to increase the safety, reliability, productivity and profitability of your plant. These couplings meet the requirements of API 610 as standard and are suitable for any market or application where you need a diaphragm coupling. Metastream diaphragm couplings are a multiple membrane (disc) straight diaphragm design. Like all diaphragm couplings, it disconnects the drive from the driven machine in the event of a torque overload or excessive misalignment that causes the diaphragm to fail. The pre-assembled pack that includes the Metastream diaphragm design also includes a safety device that in the event of a diaphragm failure allows the equipment to be shut down safety while helping to prevent extra damage. Due to the pre-assembled pack(s), any damaged diaphragm can be easily and quickly replaced.

API Coupling

MHS SERIES

TSKL range of close-coupled membrane couplings has been specifically designed as a direct replacement for lubricated gear couplings even when the shaft separation is very small, typically 3mm. The TSKL coupling incorporates a scalloped design of stainless steel flexible membrane, which allows for transmitting medium torque combined with shaft misalignment.
TSKS / TSCS
Stainless Steel Discs in Factory-assembled Cartridge for Medium-duty Applications
John Crane’s Metastream T Series metallic membrane couplings, incorporate scalloped, stainless-steel, flexible membranes. This design gives the most flexible solution for high-torque and misalignment conditions. The range of TSK/TSC has been specifically designed to meet the exacting standards of API 610 (ISO 13709) and ISO 14691.

General Process Industries

A SERIES CLOSE-COUPLED ARRANGEMENT
Close-coupled Wrap-fit Urethane Element Coupling
The A Series is the simplest construction of all our couplings. The arrangement consists of two close-coupled hubs which have six or eight teeth, depending on size. These components are made of quality carbon steel. The split insert, which is made of specially compounded urethane, fits over the hub teeth. The retaining ring is made of steel and is located with two setscrews.
A SERIES SPACER ARRANGEMENT
Wrap-fit Urethane Element Coupling
John Crane A Series couplings provide a solution to one of the most persistent and troublesome problems facing maintenance personnel: periodic coupling failure and the downtime and expenses that go with it. If a new insert is needed, a replacement can be installed in minutes, without moving either the prime mover or the driven equipment.
C SERIES
Rigid Coupling with Radially Located Parts for Vertical Applications
C series rigid couplings incorporate a segmented, piloted locating design. This eliminates the shaft distortion associated with conventional ‘clam shell’ coupling designs where the motor shaft supports the pump shaft, and there are no bearings in the pump. It can also be used in vertical mixer applications, where the same characteristics are required.
L SERIES
General-purpose All-metal Membrane Coupling
L series range of membrane couplings has been specifically designed to provide a cost-effective solution for demanding industrial applications. The couplings are selected by their torque capacity, with the scalloped hub providing the right size for the shaft.
TLR
Stainless Steel Discs and Axially Split Spacer for Close-coupled Applications for High Torques (Metric)
TLR is a short DBSE split spacer coupling. This coupling is designed to replace gear couplings, and to be used on applications where the DBSE is too short for a spacer coupling and the customer requires maintenance without moving the associated machines. Configuring the hubs allows DBSEs from 5mm up to the TLKS standard minimum to be achieved.
TSE
Stainless Steel Discs and Axially Split Spacer for Close-coupled Applications (Imperial)
TSE coupling range is particularly suited for close-coupled applications traditionally fitted with gear type couplings. Torque is transmitted through two sets of membranes in hub assemblies protected by two adaptable guard rings. The hub assemblies are separated by an axially split spacer to facilitate in field repair in the event of coupling failure.
TSR
Stainless Steel Discs and Axially Split Spacer for Short DBSE Applications (Metric)
TSR coupling range is particularly suited for close-coupled applications traditionally fitted with gear type couplings. Torque is transmitted through two sets of membranes in hub assemblies protected by two adaptable guard rings. The hub assemblies are separated by an axially split spacer to facilitate in field repair in the event of coupling failure. The coupling provides a good level of angular, lateral and axial misalignment, while maintaining a high level of balance integrity. Option for spark resistance is available.
ZMHS
Stainless Steel Coupling with Composite Spacer for Cooling Tower Applications
Radial spoke form membrane coupling with composite spacer element for long DBSE applications. Computer-controlled, filament wound, matrix torque tube with stainless steel hubs, hardware and disc packs. Up to 80 percent lighter than comparable welded metal torque tubes and corrosion-resistant for corrosive atmospheres.

Turbomachinery Couplings

H-CE
High-performance, Reduced-moment and Low-windage Design (API 671 and ISO 10441)
H-CE couplings offer the lowest possible overhung moments and additional shrouding of the flexible elements and bolts. This arrangement produces a high-integrity coupling suited for most medium-speed and high-speed compressor drives.
H-FE
Factory-assembled Transmission Unit with High-torque Capacity and Low Weight (API 671, ISO 10441)
H-FE couplings can be readily adapted to match the integral shaft flanges used on many large gas and steam turbines. On some applications, an H-FE turbine end drive is combined with a reduced moment arrangement at the compressor end. The transmission unit is simple to install and remove for rapid separation of the two machines, providing easy access for alignment and equipment maintenance.
H-ME
High-performance coplanar couplings for turbomachinery with overload torque requirements.
John Crane’s Metastream H-ME couplings provide optimal power to weight in API 671 applications with overload torque requirements, by incorporating two technologies in one coupling for greater operational efficiency and improve reliability. This advanced design is able to withstand up to 2 times rated torque caused by unexpected overload conditions.
H-RE
High-performance, Reduced-moment Design for Low Overhung Moment (API 671 and ISO 10441)
H-RE series couplings are designed for medium- to high-speed turbomachinery applications where low overhung moment and light weight with a high degree of reliability are critical. The couplings are manufactured in high alloy steel, with high-strength stainless steel flexible elements, supported by aircraft standard fastenings. The couplings are generally balanced to API 671 or similar, with pilot location to retain a very high level of repeatability.
